How to Fix an Epson EcoTank Printing Blank Pages

By Treknova Technical Support | Updated: October 2026

Epson EcoTank printers are incredibly cost-effective, but their liquid ink system has a major vulnerability: if you don't print at least once a week, the ink dries inside the delivery tubes. This results in the printer going through all the mechanical motions of printing, but pushing out completely blank pages.

Because the ink tanks physically have ink in them, the printer's logic board does not trigger an "Out of Ink" error. To force the dried ink out of the nozzles, you must utilize Epson's internal maintenance software.

Method 1: Standard Printhead Cleaning

Before attempting a high-pressure flush, always start with a standard automated cleaning sequence to protect the nozzle seals.

  1. Load standard white paper into the feed tray.
  2. Go to your computer and open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  3. Right-click your Epson EcoTank model and select Printing Preferences.
  4. Navigate to the Maintenance tab.
  5. Click Print Head Cleaning and select Start.
  6. Once finished, print a Nozzle Check Pattern. If there are gaps in the grid, proceed to Method 2.

Method 2: The "Power Cleaning" Flush

If a standard cleaning fails, you must run a Power Cleaning. This forces a massive amount of ink through the tubes at high pressure to blow out hardened clogs.

  • Open the Maintenance tab in your Epson Printing Preferences again.
  • Select the Power Cleaning (or Power Ink Flushing) utility.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm the flush. Note: This process consumes a significant amount of ink and takes up to 12 hours for the internal pressure to normalize completely.

Warning: "Waste Ink Pad" Lockout

Running multiple Power Cleaning cycles rapidly fills the printer's internal Waste Ink Pad. Once the digital counter detects the pad is full, the printer will trigger an "End of Service Life" error and permanently lock down all functions to prevent a physical ink spill on your desk.
